Consent to record

Hito records conversations. Before recording, everyone in the room has to know and agree.
The rule
- Before recording, say out loud that the meeting will be recorded and transcribed, and why.
- Ask whether everyone agrees. If anyone would rather not, do not record.
- Ask the question once the recording is running, so the answer is on the record.
- If someone asks not to be recorded, respect it, even halfway through the meeting.
- A voice becomes a person only when someone confirms it. Until then, Hito shows it as "Speaker 4".
Hito does not ask for consent on your behalf yet. The app has no consent step today. Asking is part of recording.
What Hito analyzes
The people in the room should know not only that it records, but what Hito does with the recording:
- It transcribes what is said and recognizes who says it.
- It follows topics from one meeting to the next.
- It shows individual performance and group dynamics: how much each person speaks, their strengths and what they can improve, and how people relate.
- It notes actions and commitments, with their owner and date.
A line to read at the start
"I am going to record this meeting so we have a record of what we agree. Hito transcribes, recognizes who is speaking and sums up the topics. Is everyone all right with that? If anyone would rather not, we do not record and we take notes instead."
Who is responsible
The company or organization that uses Hito decides when to record. It is responsible for making sure the recording is lawful, and for giving the notices and getting the consents the law requires where the recording happens, including from people outside the company.
Some laws require the agreement of everyone present, such as California's. In Chile, the Criminal Code punishes recording private conversations without authorization (article 161-A). In some places, such as Illinois, creating a voice profile requires written notice and written authorization. If you are unsure which law applies, ask a lawyer before recording.
Deleting a recording or a voice
Anyone who appears in a recording can ask for what they said, or their voice profile, to be deleted. Write to hello@hito.one. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email.
